RiverTrek & the Chattanooga Star riverboat are proud to announce the first scheduled Tennessee - Tombigbee Waterway Survey. Beginning November 8, 2005 the Chattanooga Star riverboat will depart Yellow Creek at the juncture of the Tennessee River and the head of the Tennessee - Tombigbee Waterway. The Star will carry researchers from Mississippi State University, Starkville the entire length of the Waterway, 454 miles to Mobile, AL arriving November 14. The scope of the research has not yet been finalized but will be posted on this site as the information becomes available. The researchers will be onboard the boat for seven days and take a variety of samples the entire length of the Waterway. This will be the first time Tenn-Tom region universities and RiverTrek will have focused on research along the Waterway. It is hoped by all participants this effort will lead to an annual Survey as part of a plan to develop a baseline of information about the Waterway. There will be scheduled media stops in a few locations so please check back for updates on this page. Any Corporate entities or Organizations that would like to participate or support this research effort please contact Capt. Pete Hosemann, at the RiverTrek Operations Office at 423-942-7061 or info@rivertrek.org. |
